Protecting a computer and the information it holds has become an everyday task. Some are more worried about it than others. This page lists three categories of must have programs for anyone that has a computer and is connected to the Internet, especially those with highspeed connections. I recommend you have at least one program from each category. There are more options available than what is listed. I just typed some common ones.
Another option to consider, which seems to be popular with most people, is purchasing an Internet Security Suite that includes all of these categories of programs and more. Some common suites are made by Norton, Comodo Internet Security (my favorite free option), Panda Internet Security, and McAfee. I consider this the best route to go in most cases because there is less of a chance of conflicts between the software.
